Hoka One One
HOKA Men's Arahi 4
While primarily a support/stability shoe Arahi 4 is surprisingly well cushioned. Arahi 4 contains the unique J-Frame which is a wrap around, firm density EVA piece on the medial side where most over pronation occurs. It is also straight lasted which is generally better for runners who over pronate. It’s best suited for low arched runners who require more support and firmness under the arch. Arahi 4 is also firm on the lateral side which helps to guide your foot from heel strike thru to forefoot roll. It has a 5 mm drop and weighs in at 9.6 oz.
Running Niche Experience
We find the Arahi 4 fits true to size. It’s very unique as while providing solid stability it is also well cushioned. Contributing to the stable feel of the shoe is the wider base it is built on. With at stack height of 29 mm in the heel Arahi 4 is really well cushioned with its compression molded EVA midsole. It’s really a great combination of both, which is unusual for a stability shoe. Arahi 4 also has a nice heel pull tab which makes it really easy to get on and the engineered mesh upper is more breathable than version 3. You will also find high abrasion rubber wear pads in exactly the right area. And don’t let the visual of height fool you, you actually down into the midsole thanks to the Active Foot Frame design.
Geometry, Shaping and Cushioning Technology
Hoka’s technologies are actually a combination of several elements which result in a unique feel, the Hoka difference.
All Hoka’s have:
- The Meta-Rocker design which is a slight rocking feel as you roll over the midfoot and aids in propelling the runner forward.
- An Active Foot Frame: allows your foot to sit deep in the midsole and provides guidance to foot without the need for constrictions. It’s like a bucket seat that cradles the foot.
- Cushioned Midsole: marshmallow soft, Hoka’s midsoles are super light and offers great shock absorption, comfort and support.
- J-Frame: similar to the Active Foot Frame but instead adds support with a firmer density foam on the medial side where over pronating occurs. Found only in Hoka stability shoes like the Arahi 3.
Brand Description: HOKA ONE ONE
HOKA ONE ONE came to be in a moment of insight, on a mountain-top in New Zealand. Back home in Anecy, the founders set out to solve a simple problem, to make running downhill easier on the body, by rethinking the nature of running shoes. They succeeded and the Ultra Marathon world rejoiced. What they didn’t expect was that they’d solve a universal running problem… it’s not just running 50 miles downhill that is hard - all running is hard, and Jean-Luc and Nico just made it easier for everyone.
